The short version: your journal entries live on your phone. We do not store them on our servers.

What Spilled collects

When you create an account, we receive:

  • Your name (if you choose to share it)
  • An email address (a real address, or a private relay address if your sign-in provider uses one)
  • An anonymous account identifier so we can recognize you on future sign-ins

That is the entire account profile. Nothing else.

What Spilled does not store on our servers

  • Your journal entries
  • The names you give your connections
  • The tags or scores generated from your entries

All of that data lives on your device. There is no Spilled server that holds your journal, and no admin with access to it.

Spilled uses Sign in with Apple on iPhone and Sign in with Google on Android. These are the only ways to sign in. Your sign-in provider may share a private relay email with us rather than your real address. Either way, we treat the email as a contact identifier, not as a marketing list. We do not send newsletters or promotional emails.

Smart tagging and reads

When you tap the button to have Spilled tag an entry or generate a written read, the text of that entry is sent to a third-party language service that identifies the relevant tags and returns them. The text is processed for that request and then discarded. We do not store your entry text on our servers, and the third-party service does not retain it. You can always tag entries manually instead, in which case no entry text leaves your device.

Anonymous community signals

Spilled may send anonymous signals to help build community insights. This data is limited to things like which pattern flag fired, a score zone, and country. It never includes journal text, names, or anything that could identify you or anyone you are tracking. You can disable this in settings at any time.

Notifications

Spilled may ask permission to send notifications, such as reminders to log an entry. All scheduling happens on your device. We do not send push notifications from a server.

In-app purchases

Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple on iPhone and by Google Play on Android. We never see your payment information. The app store handles billing, refunds, and family sharing.

How to delete your account and data

You can delete your account and all associated data from inside the app at any time. Here are the steps:

  1. Open Spilled and go to the Account screen.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
  3. Confirm by tapping Delete Forever in the dialog.

When you delete your account, we permanently remove your account profile and all associated records from our servers, including your name, email, account identifier, and any anonymous signals tied to your account. This action is immediate and cannot be undone. Your journal entries are stored on your device, so deleting the app also removes them from your phone.

If you are unable to access the app and want your account deleted, email spilled@appsthathelp.com from the address associated with your account and we will delete it for you.

Children

Spilled is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected data from a minor, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

  • You can delete your account and all associated data using the steps above.
  • You can delete the app to remove your journal entries from your device.
  • You can request a copy of the data we hold about you by emailing us.

Data storage

Account profiles are stored on Cloudflare servers in the United States. Journal entries are not stored on any server.
